A professor considered a technology education pioneer and an Honors College student with a 4.0 grade point average are The University of Southern Mississippi’s recipients of this year’s Higher Education Appreciation Day, Working for Academic Excellence (HEADWAE) award.

Mary Libby Payne’s commencement address Friday at The University of Southern Mississippi included her own words, but they also reflected the timeless values and spirit of humanity passed on by her grandfather, Joe Cook, the university’s first president. 

Kristy Cleveland, a sophomore majoring in English Licensure at The University of Southern Mississippi, has been awarded the 2010 Coca-Cola Classic Rodeo Scholarship.

Kelly Hill of Gretna, La., was selected to serve as a College of Health Ambassador for the 2010-11 academic year at The University of Southern Mississippi. 

Students are selected to represent the College of Health as an Ambassador based on the student’s academic achievement and leadership qualities. Ambassadors represent the college at a variety of campus and community events and are dedicated to expanding the College of Health by increasing the college student body and promoting health and excellence through research, teaching, and service.
