The artwork of Long Beach artist and resident Sue Cockrell is now on display at the Gulf Coast Library at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Park Campus in Long Beach.

A total of 12 sports facilities will be recognized for their leadership in addressing safety and security issues as part of the 2016 National Sports Safety and Security Conference and Exhibition set for July 12-14, in Phoenix, Arizona. This year’s theme is Achieving the Gold Standard.

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at The University of Southern Mississippi is springing into summer with a host of activities sure to please anyone in search of some much-needed fun in the Hattiesburg and Gulf Coast areas.

The University of Southern Mississippi’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC) in Hattiesburg will join forces with the Gulf Coast center to conduct a series of Business 101 workshops in June.

When daylight broke over the iconic and historic University of Southern Mississippi campus on Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, Chris Crenshaw’s heart sank at the devastation that lay before him. Only hours earlier, a powerful F-4 tornado had ravaged the front portion of the Hattiesburg campus.

 

Today, Crenshaw’s heart swells with pride as he gazes upon the impressive restoration effort that has transformed the University’s “front porch” in just three years’ time.

In celebration of June as National Homeownership Month, a free community resource housing event has been set for Friday, June 3, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the C.E. Roy Community Center at 300 East Fifth St., in Hattiesburg. A free homebuyer education class will be held Saturday, June 4, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the C. E. Roy Community Center.

The city-wide celebration known as FestivalSouth’s® continues today with a special presentation on The University of Southern Mississippi campus in Hattiesburg. Mississippi’s only multi-week, multi-genre festival will continue through June 18.

Comcast has announced the launch of Xfinity On Campus to The University of Southern Mississippi, enabling students who live on the Hattiesburg campus to watch live TV and On Demand cable services on their laptops, tablets and smartphones.

 

The National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4) at The University of Southern Mississippi recently hosted a Crowd Safety and Risk Analysis Workshop, led by world-renowned crowd expert Dr. Keith Still. Held on May 16-18, this marked the first time the NCS4 hosted a workshop of this type.

“I have never had a single day when I regretted coming to work. This is the best job on the planet,” said Smith, who plans to retire on June 30 after 37 years as a professor and administrator at The University of Southern Mississippi.

University Research Center (URC) is hosting its first “Advancing Mississippi: Research for a Better Mississippi for More Mississippians” Conference on Thursday, June 9th in Jackson. Researchers from across the state will present papers that address the systemic challenges that Mississippi faces.
