University of Southern Mississippi student Landry Smith of Laurel, Miss., has been awarded a study abroad grant worth $1,000 from The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi --the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. Smith is one of 75 students nationwide to receive the award.

Tyunna Odom, a junior nursing major at The University of Southern Mississippi, has been awarded the Eliza Pillars Registered Nurses of Mississippi (EPRNM) Undergraduate Scholarship.

Four spring commencement ceremonies were held, including the inaugural Graduate School graduation on USM’s Hattiesburg campus Thursday, May 9 at Reed Green Coliseum; two on Friday, May 10 for undergraduates at the Hattiesburg campus, also held at Reed Green Coliseum; and one on Saturday, May 11 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum for undergraduate and graduate students at USM’s Gulf Park Campus and Gulf Coast teaching and research sites.

The Southern Entrepreneurship Program at The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) wrapped up another successful year with the 12th Annual SEP State Competition held May 8 at the Trent Lott Center on the University’s Hattiesburg campus.

The University of Southern Mississippi’s (USM) School of Ocean Science and Engineering (SOSE) hosted this year’s Southern Association of Marine Laboratories’ (SAML) annual meeting May 5-6 at the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory’s (GCRL) Marine Education Center (MEC) in Ocean Springs.
