Photo/Video Opportunity

The University of Southern Mississippi will hold an official dedication and ribbon-cutting for the new Joe Paul Student Theater prior to Saturday’s home football game against Louisiana-Monroe. The ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on the second floor of the Thad Cochran Center on USM’s Hattiesburg campus. The theater is a 9,000-square-foot, 324-seat stadium-style cinema and auditorium located within the Thad Cochran Center. The theater is named in honor of USM Vice President Emeritus for Student Affairs Dr. Joe Paul, who retired from the University in 2015 after four decades of service. El Grito Latin Fest Kicks off WUSM’s Leaf River Fall Fests Series Sept. 8

A celebration of Latin heritage will kick off WUSM-FM’s Leaf River Fall Fests series Saturday, Sept. 8 with El Grito Latin Fest from 3-9 p.m. at Hattiesburg’s Chain Park at Twin Forks, located on East 8th Avenue. Admission is free. El Grito Latin Fest will feature The Jackson Gypsies (JGypsies Band), Salseros del Sur, and Treces del Sur, as well as Latin dance lessons from Hattiesburg’s own Rebecca Chandler.
