The University of Southern Mississippi Research Foundation and Pelagic Research Systems are announcing the signing of a joint asset and expertise collaboration. The pairing of resources in the Gulf of Mexico will greatly expand ocean research capabilities for offshore works.

Marshall Ramsey, author and nationally-syndicated editorial cartoonist, stopped by The Children’s Center for Communication and Development at The University of Southern Mississippi this week to read his book “Banjo’s Dream: an A-Z children’s book starring a little brown Border Terrier who taught his owner how to dream.”

The School of Kinesiology at The University of Southern Mississippi’s Hattiesburg campus will host an open house highlighting its graduate programs Wednesday, March 2 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the Kinesiology Building, room 203.

The event is an opportunity for prospective graduate students to learn about the different programs offered, research opportunities, financial aid and more. Current students, faculty and staff will be on hand to answer questions. Refreshments will be available.

University of Southern Mississippi Distinguished Professor Emeritus of English Philip Kolin will discuss his new book of poems dedicated to the late Emmett Till on the Mississippi Public Broadcasting’s Think Radio program “Mississippi Edition” Thursday, Feb. 25 from 8:30 - 9 a.m. The weekday news show is hosted by Karen Brown.

The widow of a civil rights movement icon who continues her husband’s work advocating for racial equality and social justice will be the guest speaker for The University of Southern Mississippi’s 2016 Armstrong-Branch Lecture. 

Myrlie Evers-Williams, chairwoman of the Medgar & Myrlie Evers Institute and scholar-in-residence at Alcorn State University in Lorman, Miss. will speak at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 8 at Bennett Auditorium on the University’s Hattiesburg campus. Admission is free and the event is open to the public.
