The University of Southern Mississippi invites female high school students from the Gulf Coast area to attend its sixth annual “Day at USM” event Friday, Nov. 4 at the University’s Gulf Park campus in Long Beach.

The University of Southern Mississippi School of Music is receiving the generous donation of a fine musical instrument this fall. Sharon Varnado of Hattiesburg has agreed to donate an Antonio Raya Pardo classical guitar, made in Granada, Spain during the 1970s, to benefit the guitar program.

The Gulf Coast Library at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Park Campus in Long Beach will exhibit etchings and engravings by Gulfport printmaking artist, Michael Richardson.

The University of Southern Mississippi School of Music presents two diverse events on Nov. 10. At 6 p.m., The Sax-Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Lawrence Gwozdz, presents a program featuring a mixture of transcribed and original works for saxophone orchestra. Then at 7:30 p.m., faculty artist Dr. Ben McIlwain presents “Off the Beaten Path,” a trombone recital with Dr. Ellen Elder on piano and special guests Dr. Richard Perry, tuba and The Southern Miss Select Trombone Octet with guest conductor, Dr. James Standland. Both events are free and will be performed in Marsh Auditorium on the Southern Miss Hattiesburg campus.

High school cadets from the Jackson Public Schools System and the Mobile County Public Schools System will take part in the first JROTC STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) Invitational set for Nov. 4-5 at The University of Southern Mississippi’s Hattiesburg campus.

Lewis, compliance coordinator at The University of Southern Mississippi, participated in a panel entitled “The Risks of Non Compliance” Oct. 14 at the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) Cooperative for Educational Technologies (WCET) 2016 annual conference held in Minneapolis, Minn. in collaboration with Sharyl Thompson, CEO of Higher Education Regulatory (HER) Consulting, Jeannie Yockey-Fine, State Regulatory Services Advisor, Cooley, LLP and Terrence Scarborough, Director of SARA-NC.

More than 350 high school students are expected to participate in the kickoff event for The University of Southern Mississippi’s 2016 Southern Entrepreneurship Program (SEP) on Thursday, Nov. 3 in Jackson.
