Brady Raanes, CFA, CFP®, CMT, Director of Investment Strategy at Raanes Capital Advisors and financial advisor with Raymond James Financial Services, was recently named to the Forbes list of America’s Top Next-Generation Wealth Advisors, which recognizes advisors from national, regional and independent firms.

Raanes, a University of Southern Mississippi graduate, was the only advisor in Mississippi to earn this recognition in 2018.

The University of Southern Mississippi prepared a welcome nest for its newest flock of Golden Eagles this past weekend.

Golden Eagle Welcome Week (GEWW) is the official welcome event for first-year students to Southern Miss, along with Move-In Days for residence halls. GEWW takes place during the week prior to the start of fall semester classes starting.


Imagine a treasure trove of artifacts so vast that you could not accurately pinpoint the exact number of items on hand. Such is the cavernous amount of historical memorabilia stored in the Special Collections wing of The University of Southern Mississippi’s McCain Library & Archives.


From a hardcover copy of “Aesop’s Fables” printed in 1530, to an original manuscript of “A Wrinkle in Time,” to a campaign poster for then-presidential candidate Abraham Lincoln, USM’s collection of historical material is uniquely special.

Students in the Recording Industry program at The University of Southern Mississippi will get a fresh perspective on the field in the fall 2018 semester, with the return of Dr. Jonathan Pluskota from his 11-month Fulbright Scholar experience in Estonia.

Pluskota, an assistant professor in the School of Communication, spent the past academic year teaching and researching sound engineering at the University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy.


The University of Southern Mississippi’s Pride of Mississippi Marching Band and the Dixie Darlings are ready to kick off the 2018-19 football season with the annual Pride Preview performance.
