An advisement center launched this semester by The University of Southern Mississippi’s Department of Psychology is a convenient resource for undergraduate students seeking assistance with course scheduling and issues related to graduation requirements.

The registration deadline has been extended for The University of Southern Mississippi’s popular Saturday Gifted Studies Program, scheduled for Jan. 22 – March 5, 2011 on the Hattiesburg campus. It is coordinated through the Frances A. Karnes Center for Gifted Studies.

Teachers, parents, grandparents, youth and other fans of children’s literature can get a sneak peek at the latest in children’s literature Nov. 7-8 when The University of Southern Mississippi’s de Grummond Children’s Literature Collection hosts its annual Holiday Book Preview.

When she inquired about a teaching position with The University of Southern Mississippi’s College of Education and Psychology more than 20 years ago, Mary Beth Evans wasn’t lacking in experience.

By then, she already had half a century of service in the field of education, from working as a teacher in a rural country day school to high school principal to professor at universities in the Midwest. But even after she and her husband retired to Hattiesburg, she still longed to continue working in her chosen field.

Parents of gifted children can benefit from the knowledge of experts presenting at the Parenting Gifted Children conference at The University of Southern Mississippi Saturday, Nov. 6 on the Hattiesburg campus.
