Student Health Services (SHS) at The University of Southern Mississippi has added a new, more-convenient way for students to access records and schedule appointments through an online health portal.

Developed over the summer and available now, the comprehensive information portal can be utilized at https://shsweb.usm.edu/PyramedPortal/Login.aspx

An 18k white gold and diamond, South Sea pendant/pearl enhancer will be auctioned at “Gold” - The University of Southern Mississippi 2010 Centennial Arts Gala Thursday, Sept. 16 at the Lake Terrace Convention Center.

The University of Southern Mississippi Department of Biological Sciences will host outreach activities this fall, including unique “overnight adventures” at its popular science museum that include opportunities to learn about the natural world on campus and at a nature preserve managed by the university.

As celebrities walk the red carpet at the Sept. 15 premiere of “Twist,” the musical set to debut at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, Ga., several University of Southern Mississippi alumni will be among them.

It took one week for University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast students, faculty, staff and administrators to transform a building battered by Hurricane Katrina into a canvas of art to be admired.

Faculty, staff and students at The University of Southern Mississippi are invited to attend the 2010 Fall Convocation set for 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 14 in Bennett Auditorium on the Hattiesburg campus.

Highlights of the agenda will include a State of the University address by President Martha Saunders and a year-in-review video of campus events. Refreshments will be provided following the program.

Offices on the Hattiesburg campus will close if possible, but classes will continue as scheduled. Faculty and staff are encouraged to make every effort to attend.

For those in the Southern Miss family who cannot attend, the event will be Webcast. The live stream will be active approximately 15 minutes before the event begins.

Dr. Tim Rehner, director of the School of Social Work at The University of Southern Mississippi, has been selected to participate in a special program sponsored by the Social Work Leadership Institute at the New York Academy of Medicine.

Renowned singer/songwriter Jimmy Buffett took a break from his busy schedule to spend some time on the Southern Miss campus with university President Martha Saunders.

A home football game tradition continues at its new home when the Friday Night at the Fountain concert and pep rally kicks off at 7 p.m. this Friday, Sept. 10 at the Centennial Green, located at the site of the old University Commons on the campus of The University of Southern Mississippi.

Friday Night at the Fountain will begin with a concert by the Southern Miss student group S.M.A.S.H. from 7-9 p.m., which will be followed by a pep rally featuring the Southern Miss Cheerleaders, Dixie Darlings, Golden Eagles mascot Seymour, a member of the Southern Miss football coaching staff and the Pride of Mississippi Marching Band.

Elections will be held Tuesday, Sept. 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The University of Southern Mississippi to elect a queen and her court for Southern Miss’ Centennial Celebration Homecoming, as well as Mr. and Miss Southern Miss.  The elections are coordinated by the Student Government Association (SGA).

It was easier said than done, but Lake Terrace Convention Center Executive Chef Carmen Hardy Ford designed a menu of gourmet treats for the University of Southern Mississippi 2010 Centennial Arts Gala.

The University of Southern Mississippi’s Gulf Coast Research Laboratory Natural History Museum has received a National Science Foundation grant to catalogue invertebrate specimens from the northern Gulf of Mexico.
