Dr. Ngoc Phan, assistant professor of political science in the College of Arts and Letters at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Park Campus in Long Beach, has been selected to present two papers at the 86th Annual Southern Political Science Association (SPSA) Conference in New Orleans in January 2015.

Jellyfish, long regarded as the pests of the sea, may play an ever-larger role in defining the relationship between humans and the world’s oceans, according to a new paper published in Frontiers in Ecology and the Environment.

For the first time, The University of Southern Mississippi’s Graduate School will offer a unique opportunity for students to showcase their thesis or dissertation work in a competitive format.

 

The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition invites graduate students to describe the significance of his/her thesis or dissertation to a general audience in three minutes or less. Cash prizes will be awarded to the eight finalists – ranging from $250 for finalists to $1,000 for the Grand Champion.

The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and the Center for Community and Civic Engagement (CCCE) at The University of Southern Mississippi are sponsoring a variety of canned food collection drives Nov. 7-14 as part of “Let’s SAAC Hunger” week.

 

Conference USA member institutions participate in the initiative through conference-wide community outreach.  SAAC and CCCE invite all student groups, faculty, staff, alumni and area residents to participate.

The University of Southern Mississippi’s Institute for Disability Studies at the Gulf Park Campus (IDS-GP) in Long Beach announces its participation in National Disability Employment Awareness Month, an annual awareness campaign that takes place each October. The purpose of National Disability Employment Awareness Month is to educate about disability employment issues and celebrate the many and varied contributions of America's workers with disabilities.

A new program in the College of Business at The University of Southern Mississippi will enable finance students to gain a competitive edge as they pursue professional opportunities.

 

This semester Southern Miss became a member of the Corporate Treasury Management (CTM) Program – an exclusive arrangement between the Association of Financial Professionals (AFP) and business schools across the country. Less than 50 universities in the U.S. are members, and Southern Miss currently offers the only CTM Program in Mississippi.
