The International Federation of Fly Fishers (IFFF) recently presented The University of Southern Mississippi’s Gulf Coast Research Laboratory (GCRL) with its Conservation Award. The award is given annually to “individuals, groups or organizations that have made extraordinary contributions to the conservation of our fisheries’ resources”.

University of Southern Mississippi Police have arrested Velton Williams, of Hattiesburg, in connection with an alleged threat to the Hattiesburg campus posted last week on the social media application Yik Yak.

The first lecture in the 2014-15 Anthropology and Sociology Colloquium Lecture Series features Dr. Christy Mello from The University of Southern Mississippi who will present, "Activism and Community Health: The Politics of Food, Racism, and Neoliberalism in Southeast Grand Rapids, Michigan." Free and open to the public, this event well be held Thursday, Oct. 2 at 12:15 p.m. in the Liberal Arts Building, room 204.

The Sertoma Club of Hattiesburg recently presented a check for $2,000 to The University of Southern Mississippi’s Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences. The donation will provide funding for three Sertoma Scholarship recipients in the department.

The Children's Center for Communication and Development at Southern Miss welcomed the Lady Eagles basketball organization on Tuesday, Sept. 30 to celebrate the pair's annual play date.  For the fourth year the Lady Eagles have taken a morning off from practice and studies to reach out to the Center's children who are all under the age of six and have special needs.
