University Libraries will participate in Open Access events during the month of October in an effort to provide The University of Southern Miss academic and research community the opportunity to learn about the potential benefits of open access, particularly those related to open textbooks.

When Dr. Jay Dean takes to the podium to open the 97th season of The University of Southern Mississippi Symphony Orchestra on Thursday, Sept. 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the Mannoni Performing Arts Center Auditorium, it will kick off a musical parade that sees the venerable symphony performing music from across the spectrum of the musical genres.

The College of Business at The University of Southern Mississippi is sponsoring a leadership training series led by corporate trainers from poultry giant Sanderson Farms on Friday, Sept. 23 at Scianna Hall on the Hattiesburg campus. The event is set for 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Biloxi native and University of Southern Mississippi alumna Christy Pickering will appear in a self-entitled presentation called “Girl, You Deserve Better: A Night with Christy Pickering” Wednesday, Sept. 21, at the University’s Gulf Park campus in Long Beach.

What can you do with a degree from The University of Southern Mississippi? Great things according to the string of student successes achieved by its graduates. That is why the Office of Online Learning has launched a new video series profiling successful students.

 

“Southern Miss produces top graduates doing incredible things all over the world,” said interim director of the Office of Online Learning, Dr. Tom Hutchinson. “We are spotlighting students in our programs to demonstrate how completing a degree at Southern Miss can help anyone succeed in their personal and professional goals.”

Heard, J.D., director of state authorizations at the University Medical Center, made a presentation at the Association of Specialized and Professional Accreditors’ meeting in Arlington, Va. Sept. 12.

The Office of Sustainability at The University of Southern Mississippi is sponsoring a panel discussion regarding climate change on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 6:30 p.m. in the Thad Cochran Center on the Hattiesburg campus. The event is free and open to the public.
